This is Nogari Sarangbang. This story is about 'The Marriage that Shook Hanyang (A Bachelor and a Virgin Left Behind after a Broken Engagement)'. It is the story of a strange marriage operation that took place in Hanyang in 1791 during the reign of King Jeongjo. The efforts of King Jeongjo and the officials of Hanseongbu to pair up men and women who could not marry due to poverty or family incompatibility shone through, but we can see the inside story of some men and women who were unable to marry in the end. There are also many real-life figures in this story. They include King Jeongjo (1752-1800), Hanseong Panyun Gu Ik (具翼 1737-1804), Hojo Panseo Jo Jeong-jin (趙鼎鎭 1732-?), Seonhyecheong Jejo Yi Byeong-mo (李秉模 1742-1806), and Hanseong Seobu Ryeong Dosa Yi Seung-hun (Peter 李承薰 1756-1801). Mancheon Lee Seung-hun was the first Korean to be baptized as a Catholic and was martyred. This happened while he was briefly holding a government post. The person who wrote the original story, Kim Shin-bu-bu-jeon, was a Silhak scholar Lee Deok-mu (李德懋 1741-1793), who was said to have served as a proofreader at Gyujanggak at the time.
