※ This video is part of <Extreme Job - Flatfish Catching Part 1-2> that aired from September 7 to 8, 2011. Every morning, Ulsan's major ports become crowded with ships departing. It is for catching flatfish. Most of the flatfish distributed in Korea is caught through Ulsan's major ports. Flatfish, which are in season from summer to winter except for the spring spawning season, do not gather in a fixed place but continuously move with the current, so fishing boats constantly communicate with each other by radio and move to the fishing location at any given moment. We introduce the process of Won Seok-ho's crew fighting the waves in the vast ocean to catch flatfish. We follow the extreme scene where the blunt but warm-hearted crew members do not get enough sleep and pull up the net together, giving their all as sailors. - At 5 a.m., Won Seok-ho departs from Bangeojin Port and sets out to catch flounder with nine crew members, including two Chinese sailors. Their destination is 25 miles from Bangeojin Port, a distance that takes 4-5 hours to reach. Since the captain and other key crew members are veterans with over 20 years of experience, their expectations are high. However, something goes wrong from the start. Due to a mistake by the Chinese crew, the hooks that secure the net to the net were not properly set, causing part of the precious net to sink into the sea! Furthermore, unlike before when it was 'half water, half flounder', the amount of flounder caught in the net is not very good! Will Won Seok-ho successfully catch flounder and return to land? The crew cannot hide their disappointment when the flounder catch is lower than expected. The reason for the noticeable decrease in the number of flounder is also due to the abnormally low temperature phenomenon. The sea, which had a temperature suitable for flounder habitat, has been formed as a cold water zone, causing a noticeable decrease in flounder. The captain watches the fish finder in the wheelhouse and communicates with other ships in real time via radio. Ships operating in other locations also report negative news. To make matters worse, the waves are getting stronger. The crew, who have to focus on pulling up the net, have a hard time keeping their balance because the waves crashing into the deck rock the ship! But they cannot give up fishing. The crew struggles with the net all night long in the rocking ship. In addition to the noticeably reduced number of flounder compared to before, unwelcome guests are also caught in the net. Various types of marine waste, such as old fishing nets and household waste, are entangled with the net, causing scratches here and there. This is also closely related to the single-line trawling method adopted by the Won Seok-ho crew. Single-line trawling is a method of catching fish by attaching lines to both sides of the net and dragging it in a horizontal diamond shape in the sea. As a result, fishing operations are halted due to various obstacles, including reefs. The crew members urgently begin to repair the nets. The crew members, who cannot give up catching flounders, wake up from their naps when the siren sounds and work all night. - As the waves that had been troubling the crew members all night long calm down, Won Seok-ho casts his nets into the sea with renewed hope. The bad news at the beginning of the fishing operation was just groundless, and the catch gradually increases, but it still falls short of expectations. The crew members stand on the deck and organize the flounders into wooden boxes. The wooden boxes containing the flounders are stored in the deep warehouse, the fish hold, under the deck of Won Seok-ho. The temperature of the ice stored in the fish hold keeps the catch fresh until it reaches land. The crew members who carry the wooden boxes to the fish hold are always worried, but the meal time in the middle of fishing is a great joy. Just when it seemed like fishing was going smoothly for a moment, Won Seok-ho is faced with another crisis! As the waves calmed down, the wind and rain began to blow! The sailors, wearing their overalls and hats pulled down, struggled to pull up the nets despite their blurred vision. The length of the nets alone is 1,700 to 1,800 meters, and the nets themselves are so large that they can only be pulled up by using a crane. If you take your eyes off them, you could end up in a safety accident! Furthermore, in a situation where you can’t see clearly due to the wind and rain, you have to concentrate even more to pull up the nets, which makes the fishing more difficult. In the meantime, the wires supporting the main structure on the deck snap. An unprecedented situation of welding in the middle of the ocean occurs! You can’t give up fishing like this. However, you can’t just focus on the sluggish flounder fishing any longer! The captain finally makes a decision. He decides to move about an hour from the flounder fishing area and catch flatfish instead. It may seem like all the same fish live here, but in the ocean, even a slight movement can cause a completely different fish school due to subtle changes in the current. Won Seok-ho, who went out to catch flatfish, catches not only flatfish but also various types of fish such as giant octopus, cuttlefish, monkfish, and cod. Before he knows it, 100 boxes of flounder and 80 boxes of flatfish are piled up in the fishing grounds. He is exhausted from the continuous fishing, but he cannot relax until he safely transports the catch to land! ✔ Program name: Extreme Job - Flatfish Fishing Part 1-2 ✔ Broadcast date: 2011.09.07~08 #GolladunDocumentary #ExtremeJob #Ocean #Fisherman #Fish #Raw Fish #Sashimi #Seafood
