Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has dismissed one minister and two FDP ministers from the federal government. He praised the previous Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) for his "central concern to keep national debt under control". Lindner had made great efforts to present budgets that comply with the debt rule. The Federal President praised Marco Buschmann and Bettina Stark-Watzinger, who had resigned from their posts as Minister of Justice and Minister of Education, for initiatives "to adapt the liberal constitutional state to changing conditions" and for a BAföG reform. The Federal President also presented the new Finance Minister Jörg Kukies (SPD) with his certificate of appointment. Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) is also to take over the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
