The Red Cross is demanding that health reform finally reach the emergency services in order to be able to provide the best possible health service for patients. Only a quarter of all emergency doctor missions are usually a critical emergency. In such a case, for example in the case of respiratory and circulatory arrest, every second counts. As a nationwide recognized rescue organization, the Austrian Red Cross operates 85% of the emergency services in Austria. The emergency services are increasingly faced with challenges: Society is changing: it is getting older, the need for medical care is increasing. At the same time, the population's own health literacy is declining. Added to this are overcrowded ambulances in hospitals, staff shortages in the nursing sector and structural changes in hospitals. During the press conference, Deputy Federal Rescue Commander Monika Stickler, Red Cross Chief Physician Wolfgang Schreiber and Federal Rescue Commander Gerry Foitik will discuss the effects of these changes on the emergency services and call for significant adjustments to the legal basis for the emergency services.
