EPIDEMIOLOGY The incidence of ectopic pregnancy is between 1-2% of pregnancies. There are a number of risk factors that increase the probability of suffering an ectopic pregnancy. LOCATION 95% of EE occur in the tube (most of them in the ampullary portion). DIAGNOSIS. The presentation of extrauterine pregnancy is usually very nonspecific, as it appears as abdominal pain and/or bleeding. It is important to know that both bleeding and pain frequently occur in normal and evolving pregnancies. These symptoms usually appear between weeks 4-8 after the last period, but they can appear later. In case of bleeding, EE can present as an acute abdomen. In the case of a pregnancy of uncertain location, we should perform a serial determination of B-HCG. However, the definitive diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy MUST BE ULTRASOUND, since there are cases in which B-HCG evolves differently than expected (for example, in twin pregnancies). ULTRASOUND Although we will describe in more detail, in a separate video, the ultrasound findings of ectopic pregnancy, these are the findings that we can most frequently find: “blob sign”. “bagel sign” Free fluid Embryo with AC+. NATURAL HISTORY If left untreated, EE can progress in the following ways: 1. Spontaneous resolution 2. Tubal abortion 3. Ruptured tubes Related topics: Liver disease and pregnancy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oq4W0... Cholestasis of pregnancy: • INTRAHEPATIC CHOLESTASIS OF PREGNANCY...
