Foreign exchange dealers in the Syrian capital Damascus said that the exchange rate of the local currency rose against the US dollar to 11,500 liras for purchase, while the selling price rose to 12,500 liras. The dealers attributed this to the return of thousands of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to the country for the first time in 13 years following the fall of the regime of ousted President Bashar al-Assad, in addition to the freedom to trade the dollar and the Turkish lira in the markets.
