At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, the České Budějovice Oceán was a cult that was unprecedented in our country before or since. With the first single Ráchel and the following debut album Dávná zem, the black-clad foursome caused a mania among Czech music fans that was comparable to what Depeche Mode aroused. After all, Oceán was supposed to jump ahead of them on their European tour, but in the end, due to the rapid disintegration of the band, that did not happen. Oceán officially ceased to exist in 1993, and although its renewal was considered several times, the plans for a return in the original line-up were put an end to by the sudden death of Petr Muk in 2010. A few years later, the reunion only took place in a new line-up with singer Jitka Charvátová. Keyboardist and sound designer of Oceán, Dušan Vozáry, came to On Air to talk about what it was like to live in the eye of the storm for the few years in which the members of Oceán found themselves. How did they find the first synthesizers in totalitarian Czechoslovakia? Why did the offer to sign a contract with Mute Records not work out? And how did the Jewish community view the fact that they turned Judaism into fashion? Watch the full interview.
