In the cities of Rio Grande do Sul where the water has already begun to recede, the scenario is bleak. In the Taquari Valley, where entire neighborhoods were swept away by the water, many families are unsure whether or not the cities should be rebuilt in the same place. The City of Lajeado confirmed that the areas closest to the Taquari River will not be inhabited again, but it is not yet known how many people will be displaced or where they will stay from now on.
