It is no secret that the Dolomites are not only an attractive destination for hikers and climbers, but also for ski tourers in winter. However, very few ski mountaineers find their way to some areas of the Dolomites - even though the scenery is sensational and the touring options are almost endless! The Val di Zoldo is one such area: it lies south of Cortina between the Civetta, Monte Pelmo and Bosconero mountain ranges. Some parts of Zoldo, which was the third Italian town to be awarded the title of "mountaineering village" last autumn, are picture-book mountain villages: naturally grown structures and beautiful old houses, surrounded by spectacular mountains. The Bergauf-Bergab team went on a discovery tour around Zoldo and found plenty of steep gullies, lonely summit moments and untouched deep snow slopes in the mountains - and in the valley there are friendly residents who are happy to share the history and stories of their area with their guests.
