This is episode 9 of our cycle trip through the North of Minas Gerais region. We left Montes Claros for Januária, the oldest city on the Circuito Velho Chico. There was a Film Festival produced by Cine Barranco between the 18th and 21st of July. We went to attend and participate in this event, which featured a program full of art and culture. We visited the famous Januária Beach, which has a great structure that is very similar to salt water beaches, we passed through the town of Brejo do Amparo, where it all began and then we headed to the Town of Fabião, the gateway to the Park National Caves of Peruaçu, MG. Cavernas do Peruaçu National Park is a place where beautiful landscapes are framed by prehistoric rock art, ancient archaeological sites of international importance and caves of colossal magnitude. The Conservation Unit was created in 1999, and has an area of 56,448 hectares, which comprises the municipalities of Januária, Itacarambi and São João das Missões, in the northern region of Minas Gerais. Cavernas do Peruaçu National Park offers several options to visitors and is constantly evolving. To see them all, you need more than a day's visit. Choose according to your interest and physical fitness. Curiosity: It is not known for sure the origin of the name given to the valley - Peruaçu, but it is said in the region that the Indians historically located there (Xacriabás, since the mid-16th century) called it that, with the following connotation: Peru = hole (ditch, crack); Açu = big. It is understood, therefore, that the references may be related to the then-called canyon or to the large caves formed in the limestone rock in the Peruaçu valley. The Park was recently structured and has trails, viewpoints and walkways to protect archaeological sites. It also has a group of environmental drivers trained and accredited by ICMBio to guarantee a safe and unique experience, on a breathtaking tour. All visits are mandatory. Janelão Cave The Janelão Cave is the main attraction of the Park. The grandeur of the cave is expressed in its enormous sinkholes, the immensity of its halls and its gigantic speleothems. The rocky wall, right at the entrance, is a large open-air studio that tells the story of the human presence in the Peruaçu Valley. It is in the Janelão cave that the largest stalactite in the world, Perna da Bailarina, is located. Episode 1 Back on the road - Montes Claros X Januária, MG • Back on the road - Montes Claros ...
