This is our tip of the week! If I put hot food in my refrigerator, will I be increasing my electricity consumption or is this just a myth? To answer this question, let's understand how a refrigerator works. Basically, a refrigerator has a motor responsible for circulating the gas that will make it reach low temperatures. Inside the refrigerator, we have a thermostat that turns off the motor when the internal temperature reaches the established value. Under normal conditions, it will take some time for the internal temperature to start rising. When the internal temperature rises, the thermostat senses the change and starts the motor until it reaches the set temperature again. The internal temperature rises when we put food at room temperature inside the refrigerator or when we open the door for a long period of time unnecessarily. In the case of food at room temperature placed in the refrigerator, there is an exchange of heat from the warmer food with the refrigerator. The food loses heat to the internal environment, causing the temperature to rise and the motor to start again. The more food is placed in the refrigerator, the longer the motor will remain on until the internal temperature reaches the desired value. When we open the door for long periods of time unnecessarily, the same thing happens, as there is an exchange of heat from the outside to the inside. If we take this operation as a basis, it is easy to understand what happens when we put very hot food inside a refrigerator. It is as if we were putting several foods at room temperature or as if we had the door open for a long period of time. With thermography, it is easy to check the large temperature difference that will make your refrigerator have to work for a much longer time for the internal temperature to reach the desired value again, thus consuming more electricity. That was our tip of the week. Until next time! 💡 Tune in to #eletricity 💡 __________________________________________________ 👇 Most Watched Videos: We Threw a Hair Dryer in the Bathtub.
