Rabiat reporter Christoph Kürbel has often reported on escape stories, but not yet on what happens when the asylum application ultimately fails: What do #refugees experience when they are deported? In Germany, almost 13,000 people were deported in 2022. At the moment, a good 300,000 people are required to leave the country and will be deported if they do not leave voluntarily. But the process is not that simple. A lot of time usually passes between the rejection of the asylum application and landing in the country of origin, and the authorities often encounter resistance. Many of the refugees no longer have a passport, which makes deportation much more complicated. Christoph takes a close look at the #deportation system: He accompanies people who are deported, but also those responsible for deporting people themselves: How does a deportation work?
