Inaugural lecture by Yann LeCun given on February 4, 2016. Yann LeCun is a visiting professor on the annual chair of Computer Science and Digital Sciences (2015-2016). Find videos of his teachings: https://www.college-de-france.fr/site... Yann LeCun, a specialist in machine learning, is one of the fathers of "Deep Learning"; a method to which he has devoted himself for 30 years, despite the skepticism he initially encountered in the scientific community. Deep Learning, which draws on knowledge in neuroscience, mathematics and technological progress, is today acclaimed as a true revolution in the field of artificial intelligence. It has already enabled immense progress and multiple applications in the fields of facial and voice recognition, image labeling, automated language processing and computer vision. “The human and animal brains are “deep” in the sense that each action is the result of a long chain of synaptic communications (many layers of processing). We are looking for learning algorithms that correspond to these “deep architectures”. We believe that understanding deep learning will not only help us build smarter machines, but will also help us better understand human intelligence and its learning mechanisms,” says Yann LeCun.
