Subscribe to our channel / @nangateam Welcome back friends of Nanga! Valsesia again and another collaboration with our Boomer Climbers friends! The passion for this land unites us and 2 messages between Carlo and Carlo are enough to agree on an exciting destination: the Corno Grosso. This three thousand meter peak located on the watershed between the Lys valley and Valsesia recurs in our conversations and we can finally dedicate a perfect day to it in early October. The climb from Alagna is quite direct, over 1800m D+ in just 8.5km of travel. In fact it never flattens out and after the explosive start you only encounter a couple of quiet sections. But let's go in order. From Alagna you find the signs for the Vallone d'Otro, the usual 500m of hard wood and you emerge onto an enchanting plateau. In front and in every direction only mountains, the giants of Valsesia are all nearby. The Corno Grosso appears like a pyramid on the horizon, it is very far away. It is a bit modest compared to the more imposing Corno Bianco but we are sure that it will give us satisfaction anyway. We continue to Pianmisura following path 203 and the signs for the Bivacco Ravelli. We tried in the winter to conquer the bivouac but on that occasion it remained an unreachable yellow dot in the immaculate snow 200 meters above us. Today it stands out perched on its promontory, dazzling with so much sunlight it reflects. The path in this part does not give up, you need the 'metronome' pace of Carlo Boomer, that pace not too fast but effective, the one that takes you up quickly as long as you never stop. And by doing so we find ourselves grinding out the first 1200m D+ without thinking too much, we are at Piano delle Marmotte. After saying goodbye to some guys heading to Straling we organize ourselves for our destination. There is no path from here on, about 600m of climbing missing. Initially we cross the plateau, then we identify the notch to reach and as best we can we go up a very long scree. Here we suffer some slowdowns first of all due to the steepness of the route, then Carlo Boomer loses a piece of stick that we will find on the way back and finally Carlo Nanga gives in to a cramp. Once we have overcome the bad moment we reach the Pioda hill aware that the most of the climb is done. We look out over the Lys valley while the majestic Monte Rosa dominates the horizon! We turn right and through large blocks we reach the summit of Corno Grosso, a huge satisfaction for both of us. There are many memories and anecdotes that each of us tells, even though we have never climbed up here to the top we have walked around it a lot in the past. It is incredible how familiar the mountains around us are, they are exactly as we remembered them! From Straling to Corno Bianco, from Tagliaferro to Corno Mud, today the view extends without obstacles in every direction. What else to add, we are happy. A challenging descent awaits us, especially in the upper and rather long part. We return to base without any problems, an experience to remember for a long time. See you soon!
