September 2, 2024, I am in Col Indes for my first excursion in the Alpago area in this last part of summer. I intend to reach the Rifugio Semenza and then reach the Cima Lastè at 2200 m altitude but my plans will be disappointed ... After 1 km on an asphalt road I reach Malga Pian Grant and after 2 km Malga Pian de le Lastre at 1277 m altitude. A little further on I turn left onto a path, I follow the signs for the refuge. I go up a grassy slope and enter the woods, the climb is steep. After 400 m of altitude the woods open up and the view towards the Cansiglio plain, the Santa Croce lake and the Col Visentin remains almost always visible. After 600 m of altitude the path becomes narrower and slightly exposed, interspersed with sections of coarse-grained scree. At the start the sky was clear of clouds but gradually it becomes more and more overcast and I will pay the consequences later. At an altitude of 1900 m a sign indicates the refuge in half an hour. Just before reaching it it starts to rain while in front of me I see the Pian del Cansiglio illuminated by the sun. In the rain I pass the refuge and climb a few meters, I reach the Lastè fork at 2020 m altitude and the bivouac of the same name which remains closed since the refuge nearby is still open. I see the grassy hill that climbs decisively towards the Cima Lastè but the wet ground, the rain and the insistent thunder make me give up, I prefer not to risk finding myself in difficulty and I retrace my steps. I find myself in front of the 1900 m sign, there is a fork in the road. Continuing straight I see the path I came up from (926), I go down to the left, path 923. It stops raining but the rocks and grass are wet and slippery. The descent is stony and irregular, the trail is still well marked. I turn towards the Semenza refuge, a multitude of black clouds threaten it from above. In front of me, on the Cansiglio plain and on Nevegal the sun continues to shine. On a grassy plateau stands an enormous boulder called Sasso della Madonna. I return to the woods whose scents are amplified by the rain that fell previously. Among the trees at 1450 m altitude I come across a small wooden hut. I move the bolt that keeps the door closed and go in. It is a welcoming nest very well cared for where it is possible to stop for a break or even to spend the night, there are several beds. I stop for a few minutes to drink and eat and then I go back down, the path in the woods is now wide and very regular, you can run on it easily. After 11.5 km from the start I leave the woods and I hear the bells of the cows grazing. I continue on a white forest road, I pass the fork that indicates the 926 path taken on the way there and I head towards the Pian de le Lastre mountain hut. Before reaching the mountain hut I go straight on the asphalt road and then turn right onto a forest road, a sign indicates Cima Vacche and Monte Guslon. Further on a path in the woods branches off in a steep climb on the right towards Cima Vacche. The bad weather has passed, I still have time and legs to enjoy another beautiful exploratory climb. After leaving the woods I continue to climb, the path is fun and smooth; the view opens up onto the surrounding mountains, I proceed on a wide and not exposed grassy ridge. Having reached 1300 m of accumulated altitude difference, I stop on a boulder to enjoy the view, the sun is out and it's nice to wear short sleeves. It's time to go back, I quickly descend from the hill that leads to Cima Vacche (which I will reach on another occasion), I take the forest road again and then the asphalt road towards Malga Pian Grant. Jogging, I use up my last energies and end my excursion in the Col Indes parking lot.
