The forest fire in the Rudy Raciborskie forest district, which broke out on August 26, 1992, was the largest fire not only in post-war Poland, but also in Central Europe. It started with a spark and ended with an ecological disaster. The temperature in the center of the fire reached 1,000 degrees Celsius, and the fire spread at a speed of 10 hectares per minute. The surrounding villages and even the Nitrogen Plant in nearby Blachownia were at risk. 1/3 of the fire brigades from all over Poland were called to fight the fire. 10,000 people worked on the spot. Among them was Piotr Remesz, the former deputy commander of the municipal State Fire Service in Dąbrowa Górnicza. When the fire in Kuźnia Raciborska started, he was a young firefighter - he had only been in direct service for three years. However, he will never forget this action. ========== E-mail address: [email protected] ========== Hosted by: Karolina Michalik Production: Mateusz Franczyk
