◼︎ In April 2009, China announced that it would extend the eastern end of the Great Wall of China from the existing Shanhaiguan Pass to Hosan Fortress on the Yalu River, about 2,500 km away. It built a 1,600 m long wall in the north-south direction. However, there is a Goguryeo-style stone wall in the northeast direction below the new wall built by China. A typical Goguryeo-style fortification method of stacking wedge-shaped stones in the shape of a '品', and a 4 m diameter relic built in the same way as the wall exists in an excavation record written by a Chinese scholar. However, Dandong City ignored all of these records and began building a new wall in Hosan in the early 1990s, demolishing all the original Goguryeo-related signs and renaming Hosan 'Hosan Jangseong'. However, the name of this wall, discovered based on the Book of Tang and the Samguk Sagi, is Goguryeo Bakjakseong. This was a key stronghold of Goguryeo's maritime defense system. #KoreanHistory #History #HistorySpecial #HistoryJournal Copyright ⓒ KBS. All rights reserved.
