In July 2018, we spent 7 days at the best of Chapada dos Veadeiros. Our first attraction was the Almécegas 1 and 2 Waterfalls, but we enjoyed much more. See our full trip! We left Brasília towards Alto Paraíso and went straight to Fazenda São Bento, where the waterfalls are located, without stopping at the inn. On this property, there is also the option of going to Cachoeira São Bento. Since it was already close to the end of the day, we were unable to visit it. On our second day in Chapada dos Veadeiros, we went to see the incredible Cachoeira Macaquinhos. In fact, it is a circuit with several different waterfalls, including a nudist waterfall, and it is not yet very well known there. In my opinion, of all the attractions we visited, this was the best. There are several attractions in one place, a pool to jump in, a waterfall, a hot tub, viewpoints, etc. On our third day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, we hiked the Canyons and Cariocas Waterfall trail, inside the National Park. The trail is about 6 km long and is considered to be of intermediate level. It has few climbs, and is mostly flat. We managed to get to the Canyon in just 1 hour of walking. On our fourth day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, in the morning, we hiked the trail to see the incredible Segredo Waterfall. To get to this waterfall, we had to go to São Jorge and find the place where you can buy tickets to enter the property. They are not sold on site. The entrance fee was 35 reais per person. Also on our fourth day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, we visited the famous Vale da Lua, right after hiking the Segredo Waterfall. Leaving the Segredo Waterfall, it took us about 30 minutes to get to the entrance of Vale da Lua. The place has good infrastructure, with bathrooms, a snack bar, and parking. We paid 20 reais for the entrance fee. On our fifth day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, we visited the waterfalls of Quilombo Kalunga, which is located in the Cavalcante region. We hit the road very early to catch the sunrise at Mirante Nova Aurora, which is very close to the Quilombo. It is almost a 2-hour drive from Alto Paraíso to Cavalcante, so we had to get up early to see the 3 waterfalls: Santa Bárbara, Candaru and Capivara. On our sixth day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, in the morning, we hiked to Saltos do Rio Preto and Corredeiras, inside the National Park. The trail is approximately 9km long, counting the round trip and the markings are yellow. We arrived at 8:30 am and had to wait in a very long line to get in. Get there early to guarantee your spot. Also on our sixth day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, after the Saltos do Rio Preto trail, we visited the Raizama Sanctuary. We didn't know we were going there yet. We were looking for something to do. We stopped at the São Jorge Tourism Center and they suggested this attraction. We drove 3km towards Colinas do Sul, leaving São Jorge, and took the first left onto a dirt road that wasn't very well signposted until we reached the Raizama Sanctuary. On our seventh day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, we went to see one of the most talked about attractions in the region, Catarata dos Couros. We can already say that we loved this attraction and that it is a true paradise. To do this trail, we hired the guide River Mello so that we could fully enjoy it, something that few tourists get to do, since they only stay at Cachoeira da Muralha. On our last day of traveling through Chapada dos Veadeiros, in the morning, we visited Fazenda Loquinhas. We had heard a lot of good things about this attraction and seen many beautiful photos on the internet. Unfortunately, we didn't go at a very good time. Since it was a drought, the wells had little water, making it impossible to make the most of it.
