The Cavallone Caves are beautiful caves that open up in the Taranta Valley, in the heart of the Majella National Park (in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo). These caves were discovered in 1700 by a doctor who was looking for medicinal herbs. In the mid-1800s the caves were explored and finally opened to the public. To reach them we took a cable car (or rather, a basket lift) that, after a twenty-minute journey, took us to an altitude of 1,388 meters above sea level. The more athletic can also decide to walk this route, with a nice climb of a couple of hours! After the cable car we took a walk: a short path and then 268 steps carved into the rock! In the Caves the temperature is low even in summer and the humidity is very high so, before entering, we covered ourselves well. The guided tours depart every 90 minutes, run by the AGTI group. Our guide, prepared and competent, led us along a path inside the caves about a kilometer long during which we passed through beautiful rooms, full of stalactites and stalagmites. Needless to say, the view is truly breathtaking, both during the "aerial" path of the cable car and inside the wonderful caves. A unique experience.
