The procession is led by Leonhard “Hartl” Thaler: As a farmer, cattle dealer, innkeeper and musician, the 62-year-old is a well-known figure in his Tyrolean hometown of Reith im Alpbachtal. And as a traditional cattle herder, he cultivates the custom of the cattle drive with heart and soul, as has been the custom for 500 years.
