On Friday, February 2, the Iron Office's mining history committee invited to a digital seminar about new research that has come to change the image of the history of iron and steel production. In the recorded seminar, you will hear Carina Bennerhag, archaeologist at Norrbotten Museum and PhD in History of Technology at Luleå University of Technology, talk about her research. She has shown that hunting and trapping societies in the north developed techniques for producing iron over 2,000 years ago – much earlier than the scientific world has so far believed to be true. Carina completed her dissertation at the end of 2023 and her doctoral thesis received a lot of media attention.
