Capoeira Angola Master Pastinha and his Academy Master Pastinha, Vicente Joaquim Ferreira Pastinha (Salvador, April 5, 1889 — Salvador, November 13, 1981), was one of the main Capoeira masters in history. On April 5, 1889, Vicente Ferreira Pastinha was born, responsible for spreading Capoeira Angola, as well as for gathering and organizing the principles and foundations of one of the greatest symbols of Brazilian culture. Son of Spaniard José Señor Pastinha and Bahian Eugênia Maria de Carvalho, he was born on Rua do Tijolo in Salvador, Bahia. At the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, Pastinha was introduced to capoeira, according to himself, by pure luck. When he was around 10 years old, as a result of a harangue between boys, in which he always lost, he met Benedito, a black African who would become his teacher. “My life as a child was a little bitter. I found a rival, a boy who was my rival. So, we got into a fight. And, in the window of a house, there was an African enjoying my fight with this boy. So when I finished fighting, as I passed by, the old man called me: 'My son, come here!' I got to the window and he then told me: 'You can't fight with that boy. That boy is more active than you. That boy is naughty! You want to fight the boy in the race, but you can't. The time you go home to do a streak, you come here to my cazuá.' So, I accepted the invitation of the old man, who taught me capoeira. Swing here, sway there, sway here, sway there, fall, get up. When he saw that I was ready to fight with the boy, he said: 'You can fight with the boy now'. So, I left. When I came, his mother saw that I was passing by, she shouted: 'Honorato, here comes you, comrade'. The boy sucks. From inside the house, the boy jumped into the middle of the street with Satan. Then, he started insisting and when I insisted, boom, he passed his hand. I got out underneath. He put his hand on me again, I got out from under him again. He said: 'Ah, you're alive, huh?!' He insisted the third time, I hit his hand back and sat on his feet. He received it, he fell. I put my foot on it again, it fell again. His mother went and said: 'Make sure you don't get beaten!' So I said: 'Go watch him get beaten now!'. Album: Capoeira Angola (1969) Label: Fontana - 6485 119
