CABLE CAR CONSTRUCTION IN THE ALPS - Extreme construction site at an altitude of 4000 meters: Matterhorn Glacier Paradise DOCUMENTARY A monumental cable car crossing is being built almost 4000 meters above the Swiss municipality of Zermatt. The project begins in Sterzing, South Tyrol. There the cable car is dismantled and tested before being sent to Switzerland. The gigantic electric motors and cables weighing over 140 tons represent a logistical challenge. 145 fitters and project managers are doing extraordinary work in extreme high mountain conditions. The construction of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car represents an outstanding construction project in the European Alps. The sub-project of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, which connects Switzerland with Italy, is characterized by its location at extreme altitudes and difficult weather conditions. At an altitude of over 3800 meters, workers are battling extreme weather and technical challenges to realize one of the most ambitious cable car projects in Europe. The cable car, which runs from the Little Matterhorn in Switzerland to the valley station of Testa Grigia in Italy, will be the highest crossing of the Alps in Europe. The construction of this cable car requires precise planning and execution. All components are prepared in a factory in South Tyrol before being transported to the Matterhorn. The heavy components are mostly transported by helicopter, a logistical feat that requires precision and experience. The assembly work on the Little Matterhorn is a challenge for the team. Extreme weather conditions such as snow, wind and cold make everyday work difficult. Every move has to be perfect and the safety of the workers is the top priority. The construction of the cable car is a technical marvel that places the highest demands on precision and safety. A key component of the cable car is the supporting cable, which is manufactured in the Fatzer rope factory on Lake Constance. Each cable is individually tested for its load-bearing capacity and must meet the highest quality standards. The cable car will later travel at a speed of 7.5 meters per second and be able to carry up to 28 passengers per cabin. After five years of construction and costs of around 60 million euros, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing cable car is nearing completion. It will provide a year-round connection between Switzerland and Italy and is an impressive example of engineering and man's ability to adapt to the extreme conditions of nature. #cablecar #matterhorn ????
