About Gunji Temple The Gunji Temple was built by Mr. Dovdondorj for his late queen, the sixth daughter of Enkh Amgalan Khan of Manchu, Princess Hichennyi Amarlingui, in Erdene Sum, Central Province, at the beginning of West Bayan River and Khokh Kattani River, one of the major right tributaries of Tuul River. In 1697, King Enkh Amgalan Khan of Manchuria gave his sixth daughter, Princess Hikeendui Amirlingui, to Dovdondorj of Mongolia as his queen. Princess Amirlangui, who had become the wife of a Mongolian man, took it as a matter of course to give her strict duties when sending her daughter to a foreign country, but failed to fulfill the duties. Because of this, in 1740, it is said that he was killed by the Manchurian subjects. Before his death, he said, “Don't take my body to China! I am a Mongolian because I am the wife of a Mongolian. Therefore, settle me in Mongolian land! It is said that it was bequeathed. The Gunji shrine complex was an uninhabited place until 1930. In the 1940s, the Department of Homeland Security visited this virgin site and recovered artifacts. The rest of the Virgin consists of six main parts. It consists of stone monuments, structures protecting graves, Bogd gates, walls, virgins, and burial grounds. The tomb of the princess is inside the virgin. The structure that protects the tomb itself is walled, which is contained within a large outer wall. The wall is 2.5 meters high, 70 meters wide and 70 meters long, and the total area is 4900 square meters. The thickness of the wall is equal to 4 bricks laid side by side. Inside Hermen, there is a 10-meter-high, 6-meter-wide Bogd gate made of several columns. The Virgin is built near this gate, and there is a passage from north to south in the shape of a zero square. The tomb of the princess is behind this shrine. During the research, it became clear that there is a marble building under the tomb in front. The interior of the building has stone floors and 8-story brick arched walls. This structure is located in an excavated area 3-4 meters below the ground, inside which a coffin made of mahogany was found. When the coffin, painted with coniferous resin and wrapped in 9 layers of silk, was opened, there was nothing left of the princess's body. Until now, it is not known what happened to the princess's body. According to local elders, the mahogany coffin was covered with gold, and inside there were figures of people made of gold and silver, figures of five-headed animals, and carved gems. Interestingly, another grave was found on the west side of the princess's grave, in which a fat man was buried in a cross-legged position. Because the body was frozen, it looked like someone who had recently died. The coffin was wrapped in 7 layers of silk, and inside were tools such as toy axes, saws, hammers, chisels, and spades. It is not known who this body belongs to, but it has been preserved intact. Another remnant of the princess's virginity is a stone frog with its neck stretched to the south. It is a 1.95-meter-long granite frog with fifty inscriptions on its back. At the top of the stone inscription are two dragons. In the middle, in Manchu and Kanji, the words "Servant of the Great Qin State..." and "...this stone monument was erected on the occasion of the festival..." are written. The hard-working Princess Amirlangui was highly respected by the intellectuals of Mongolia at that time, and 13 groups of priests were brought from different districts to build this shrine for her, and they guarded it with strict rules. The way of life of the Mongolians and Manchus at that time was to build a shrine and worship a respected person when he died.
