After the end of the traffic light coalition, Chancellor Scholz has asked the Bundestag to vote for a vote of confidence in order to bring about new elections on February 23. His motion will be voted on Monday. If the Bundestag does not express its confidence in Scholz, Scholz will propose to Federal President Steinmeier that parliament be dissolved and new elections called. He will then have 21 days to make his decision. However, it is expected before the end of the year. The procedure for the vote of confidence has been roughly set: the Bundestag session begins at 1 p.m. Scholz will explain the vote of confidence in a speech lasting around 25 minutes. A two-hour debate is planned after that. Representatives of all parliamentary groups and factions will then probably speak. The roll-call vote on the vote of confidence will take place at around 3:30 p.m. If Scholz does not get a majority, he will then go to Bellevue Palace and ask Federal President Steinmeier to dissolve the Bundestag and call new elections.
