The Brazil vs. Germany match was played on 8 July 2014 at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, as the first semi-final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Both Brazil and Germany reached the semi-finals with unbeaten records in the competition, but the quarter-final clash against Colombia saw Brazil lose forward Neymar to injury and defender and captain Thiago Silva to a series of yellow cards. Despite the absence of these players, a tight match was expected, as both teams were traditional FIFA World Cup contenders, having won eight tournaments together and having previously met in the 2002 FIFA World Cup final, when Brazil won 2–0 to claim their fifth title. That match, however, ended in a historic defeat for Brazil. Germany were leading 5–0 at half-time, scoring four goals in six minutes, and subsequently increased the score to 7–0 in the second half. Brazil scored a last-minute consolation goal to end the match 7-1. Germany's Toni Kroos was named man of the match. World Cup: bit.ly/2z4rXSq #Brazil#Germany
