François Delpla, historian of Nazism and biographer of Adolf Hitler, has just published the first non-journalistic biography of Martin Bormann, who was the Führer's personal secretary and committed suicide shortly after him in 1945. Julien Théry talks to him about the character's career, whose archives show in particular that he was not the evil and manipulative eminence grise (or rather brown) that has often been described, but a simple, ordinary Nazi, appreciated by the Führer for his qualities of bureaucratic rigor and his unfailing loyalty. His correspondence, which is extensively used in the book, shows that Bormann was not a particularly zealous or obsessive anti-Semite, unlike his wife Gerda Bormann-Buchs. On the other hand, Bormann harbored a particular hatred of Christianity and its values. This helps explain his role in the medical crimes committed by the Nazis against the disabled, eliminated because they were useless to society and the Aryan race. François Delpla also returns to the circumstances of Bormann's death, whose body was buried anonymously, which led to the belief for a long time that he was still alive, hidden in South America or elsewhere, until scientific analyses identified his remains. This interview with Julien Théry is also an opportunity for François Delpla to develop his points of disagreement with the recent historiographical tendency (illustrated in particular by Johann Chapoutot and Christian Ingrao) to minimize Hitler's role in explaining the emergence and success of Nazism in Germany, and instead to highlight the structural dimension of the main aspects of Nazi ideology, rooted in the racist, colonial and utilitarian culture of Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For François Delpla, the personality of the Führer and his personal strategic choices remain key explanatory elements. ▶ Support Le Média: ???? https://soutenez.lemediatv.fr/ ???? https://www.okpal.com/le-media/ ???? https://fr.tipeee.com/le-media ✅ Follow us: Facebook: http://bit.ly/FacebookLeMedia Twitter: http://bit.ly/TwitterLeMedia Youtube: http://bit.ly/YouTubeLeMedia Peertube: https://video.lemediatv.fr Telegram: https://t.me/LeMediaOfficiel Join the Socios community! #Bormann #Hitler #Nazism
