There are governments that, for certain reasons, especially safety, have banned some car models in their countries. In other cases, without actually banning them, they have carried out such a bad reputation campaign that they have ended their sales. And things change, depending on the market. We bring you 10 of these models and no less than 3 Bonus Tracks... which are probably the most curious thing about this video. #cars #autos Become a member of this channel to enjoy advantages: / airtight garage 1. Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE (2017). In this case, its sale was banned in Europe. The reason? Those sharp splitters that in the event of a crash could act almost like a blade. It was an expensive car, since in the United States of America it cost a little more than 50,000 euros. In Europe, it was literally priceless. 2. Kia Rio (1997). In Latin America, the “LATIN NCAP” has been created in the image and likeness of the “Euro NACP”. A great initiative, because there are brands that sell cars in those markets that are different from the European ones, for example Kia. The version for Latin American markets did not have safety features and in the “LATIN NCAP” test out of 5 possible stars… it got… zero! 3. Hyundai Grand i10 (2007). More of the same, not in vain are they actually the same company. The Grand i10 version for North American markets had significantly worse safety equipment. As a result of all this, in the “LATIN NCAP” test it got exactly… 0 stars. 4. Jaguar XJ220S (1992). This model was very much in the minority, because only 281 units were built. And it was a model whose sale was banned in the USA for a very simple reason: With a 549 HP engine it was considered dangerous, difficult to drive… and unnecessary in a country where speed limits are very strict. 5. Lotus Elise Series I (1996). In this case, it was not so much the power, as its Rover-sourced engine with four in-line and naturally aspirated cylinders offered powers between 120 and 192 hp. It was its low weight of only 720 kilos that made it very sporty to drive... in fact, too much for the North American authorities. To reach that weight, in addition to a chassis of aluminium panels glued with resins, "details" such as the roof or the windows were dispensed with. 6. Lotus Omega (1990). The authorities of the United Kingdom considered the Lotus Omega with 377 hp to be a very dangerous vehicle. The arguments are not at all convincing, as they said that they had no qualms about a sports car being so fast, but not about a saloon designed to travel with four or five occupants being so fast. These social criticisms and above all the economic recession that came with the decade of the 90s, meant that the success of the Omega was rather limited. 7. McLaren Speedtail (2019). Another model banned in the USA. There are two reasons: first, it doesn’t have conventional rear-view mirrors, but cameras and screens… the “Yankees” don’t like this, they must find it too modern. Second, its three-seat configuration doesn’t allow the installation of side airbags in the central seat for obvious reasons. 8. Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R (1991). NHTSA stands for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is part of the United States Department of Transportation. And they are the ones who make and break it, according to their criteria, which are questionable. In 1991, they thought that the Nissan R34 GT-R was too powerful, with its almost 300 hp and around 1,500 kg. to go on the road, I repeat, roads with very strict speed limits… 9. Pagani Zonda (1999). Pagani simply doesn’t sell any of its cars in the USA. When Horacio Pagani wanted to legalise his cars in the USA, the first thing they asked him for was one of his cars to crash… we are talking about a car worth almost half a million euros. Before crashing it, the aforementioned NHTSA told Pagani that he would have to change his airbag system… Pagani did the sums and thought: “Crash a new car, half a million dollars, develop a new airbag system between 3 and 4 million… How many cars can I sell in the USA? 10? 15? I can’t add up… 10. TVR Cervera (1996). We made a video entitled “TVR History: The Most Dangerous Sports Cars”. And it is that these cars, as a cult of the purest driving, renounce all those electronic assistance systems that are not strictly obligatory… This model was banned in the USA because it was too fast and dangerous to be allowed to circulate on the street due to its 400 hp of power and reduced weight of just over a ton.
