Beethoven Total - Symphony No. 5 - Opus 67, at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, on June 1, 2019, with the OSM (São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra) conducted by Roberto Minczuk. To access the desired movement, simply click on the time indicated on the left: 0:00:00 - Introduction; 0:01:53 - 1st Movement - Allegro con brio; 0:09:04 - 2nd Movement - Andante con moto; 0:18:20 - 3rd Movement - Scherzo: Allegro; 0:23:12 - 4th Movement - Allegro. In 1808, the 5th and 6th symphonies were premiered, perhaps the best known to the public, alongside the 9th. The 5th, in C minor – a key dear to the composer for serious and passionate speeches – is constructed with an obsessive four-note motif, present in all four movements: “Thus fate knocks at the door”, Beethoven is said to have replied to Schindler in a dialogue that is unlikely but famous at the time. Through a meticulous path of thematic development in the initial movements, the center of gravity of the work is shifted to its last movement, which finds its full expansion in the eponymous C major.
