Surprisingly, but true! At one time, the Slavs inhabited almost a third of the modern territory of Germany! There were many Slavic tribes - Lyutichi, Wagrians, Ruyans, Pomorians. They mainly lived in the north of the country, as well as on the island of Rügen. In the 9th century, the Christianization and Germanization of the Slavic lands began. The Slavs resisted for 4 centuries, but were eventually conquered and merged with the Germanic ethnic group. Today our guest is historian Andrey Paul. He lives in Germany and wrote a book about the Baltic Slavs. We met in Lübeck, and not only recorded a long interview, but together with Andrey we went to a Slavic settlement in the vicinity of Lübeck.
