Muhammad bin Omar Waqdi (died in the second century of Hijri) - was one of the most prominent chroniclers and biographers of the second century. He had extensive knowledge about historical events and many historians have benefited from his research. He was one of the "Mawali-Iranian slaves" who were taken to Medina. He was born in the last years of Umayyad rule and joined "Barmakians" in his later years. He reached the seat of "judgement" in the days of "Mamun". His writings have been a source for many historians. His famous work, which is not available today, was called "Kab's History", which was used by Mohammad Jarir Tabari in writing his own history. He also had a book about "Sahaba and Tabi'in" which has not survived either. It is said that he had slaves whose duty was to write for him. It is also said that after his death, he left six hundred bookshelves. Waqidi also had a background in Islamic jurisprudence.
