CHAPTER 00:00 Pictures of the church 00:39 Pictures of the bells 00:59 Bell 3 03:11 Bell 2 06:52 Bell 1 10:12 Plenum HISTORY Around 1196, the first mention was made of a chapel being built on the site of today's mountain church. This makes the mountain church the oldest building in the town of Bad Langensalza. The original monks' chapel later developed into a Gothic church through conversions and additions. The church's organ was built in 1884/1985 by the Bad Langensalza organ builder Friedrich Petersilie. RINGING The tower of the mountain church contains a historically significant ring of three bells. The two largest bells were also both cast by the same founder and ring in the 0 octave. One floor above the two baroque bells is a small late medieval bell that probably comes from the former Augustinian monastery (now the city museum) in Bad Langensalza. Together, the three bells form, alongside the bells of the market church, one of the most important historical chimes in Thuringia and Central Germany.
