The principle of operation of an automatic transmission is based on a planetary gear. The planetary gear set consists of three wheels: the central one is called the sun gear, the outer one is the crown gear, and the gears that rotate around the sun are called satellites - translated into Russian, this means satellites. It turns out that the planetary gear is so called because the trajectory of the satellites resembles the movement of the planets around the sun - a very deep meaning! There are three modes of operation of the planetary gear within the automatic transmission, in each of these modes one of the three elements (the sun gear, the carrier or the crown gear) is stopped - this affects the nature and speed of rotation of the remaining elements.
