Parents of children with autism spectrum disorders sometimes find it difficult to navigate the jungle of new therapeutic techniques. The state of knowledge about ASD is also constantly changing. And worried parents ask themselves: "Which technique is effective? Is my work with my child really bringing the expected results?". Psychologist Dr. Anna Waligórska answers these and other questions. The number of therapeutic techniques used in people with autism spectrum disorders is incredibly large, and it is constantly growing. At the same time, new studies are systematically being created to assess their effectiveness. It is no wonder that both parents and professionals feel lost in this situation. Which techniques are definitely effective? Has the state of knowledge not changed recently? Does working with a child really bring the desired results? Questions are multiplying, fortunately it seems that we will soon receive objective answers to them. This is due to the recently established, large-scale project NPDC (National Professional Development Center in Autism Spectrum Disorders), NPDC is to develop standards for therapy and education for children and youth with ASD. The center, headed by prof. Samuel Odom, created a model for selecting therapeutic techniques (including for the developmental sphere and age of the child) based on a broad review of research and therapy standards. NPDC has also developed principles for implementing confirmed techniques and good practices in therapy into practical clinical and educational activities. During the lecture, the lecturer primarily presents a new perspective on knowledge about the proper selection of techniques in therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders. This will allow parents to further develop their competences in this area.
