45 minute introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series for beginners and advanced students. Here we practice a selected part of the first series according to Sri K. Patthabi Jois to get an insight into Ashtanga Yoga. I explain the individual asanas in more detail to give different levels the opportunity to get to know Ashtanga Yoga with me. The class and Ashtanga Yoga are dynamic and powerful and focus on the connection between breathing and movement. We start the lesson with the opening mantra and sun salutations, followed by some standing poses from the basic sequence and the first series, then a few seated poses, three backbends and finally the headstand, a few poses from the finishing sequence and the closing mantra. The Ashtanga yoga practice is very multi-layered and complex. The Ashtanga classes here on my YouTube channel are primarily intended to serve as an insight into the practice and hopefully arouse or strengthen your interest in Ashtanga Yoga. If you have the opportunity, I recommend that you practice with a local Ashtanga teacher in the long term.
