Character: The Wandberg is a popular and easily accessible mountain with a view in the southern Chiemgau Alps. Thanks to the sunny location, paths from Feistenau to the summit are free of snow early in the year. But the Wandberg is also an excellent destination for a winter hike. With the Gasthof Schöne Aussicht at the starting point and the Burgeralm cheese dairy at the foot of the Wandberg, two other places to stop for refreshments await you. At the summit itself, you can expect a wonderful view that stretches over the Kaiser Mountains and the Inn Valley to the Hohe Tauern and the Zillertal Alps. Description: At the hiking car park we follow the tarred road uphill to the Gasthof Schöne Aussicht. Shortly after the inn we come across a signpost. Here the footpath to the Wandberg branches off to the left via the Staudinger Alm. We turn sharply left and follow the small path uphill in serpentines. After an initial steep climb, the terrain slopes back again and we cross the now flat path in an easterly direction. After the traverse, our path curves to the right and we reach a fork shortly afterwards. Here we turn right and follow a meadow path steeply up the grassy slope in a northeasterly direction. After just under ten minutes we pass a gate and turn diagonally right after the passage. We take the grassy hump decorated with a cross on a short steep detour and then continue hiking to the Staudinger Alm (1175 m), which is already visible. We walk past the Alm on the right and follow a gravel path slightly downhill in a northeasterly direction. About 20 minutes after passing the Staudinger Alm we come to the road that leads up from Feistenau. We continue straight on and after another ten minutes we reach the Rettenbachalmen (1220 m). Here too we stay on our way and ignore all branches. Almost ten minutes later we reach a signposted junction. Now we leave the wide path, turn sharply right and walk along a forest path into a forest. The moderately ascending forest path then leads us in a southwesterly direction through the mountain forest. Finally, a little later we pass a pasture grid, leave the forest and turn left immediately after a bench. We cross eastwards on a small, slightly ascending path. As soon as we reach a forest, our path turns right and leads us steeply uphill. After a left turn the path leads us out of the forest again and we continue walking in an easterly direction. Finally, we come across a small alpine hut on the south side of the Wandberg. Standing in front of the hut, we turn left and follow a cart track uphill. After a right turn, the wide path disappears and we climb up, keeping to the right, along an eroded path to the large summit cross with a snack table and bench.
