Function problems contextualized in everyday situations are a breath of fresh air in the task of building learning in this branch of Mathematics. The applications of parabolas and quadratic functions are very diverse, although perhaps the best known is the parabolic shot. Without introducing concepts more typical of Physics, I analyze a situation of a ball being thrown. The questions about its position will force us to use concepts already seen in class about the critical points of a quadratic function: The vertex The intersections with the axes. Note: I do not use derivatives to find the vertex, because the video is designed for students who do not yet know how to use them.
