In this video, I try to tell a little about the history of Angu à Baiana, including the legendary Angu do Gomes, based on a visit to the Galeto 183 bar, also known as Bar da Dona Ana, in downtown Rio de Janeiro. Angu à Baiana, a mix of cornmeal and offal, is a historic dish from Rio de Janeiro that has been sold in the city since the 19th century. In the 1960s, Portuguese Manuel Gomes, inspired by the Angu à Baiana sold on the streets of the city, created his own version, which he named Angu do Gomes and became one of the most famous dishes in Rio. At Galeto 183, there is a board with the original recipe for Angu do Gomes, given as a gift to Dona Ana by João Gomes, son of the legendary Manuel Gomes.
