We visited Szatymaz, one of the country's most romantic rural airports. We took off with one of Szemp Air's An-2s, which carried out biological mosquito control around Szeged after the Tisza receded from the floodplains. The An-2 was considered a real workhorse in the past decades. The type appeared shortly after the Second World War, originally intended as a transport machine. More than 18,000 copies of the single-engine, biplane machine were built until the middle of the 2000s. While in the Soviet Union she was nicknamed Annuska, in our country she was typically nicknamed Ancsa. The engine has 1,000 horsepower, and its consumption varies between approximately 120 and 200 liters per hour, depending on the task and load. It has been used in Hungary since the end of the 60s, and was one of the defining types of agricultural aviation. How does the An-2 work at low altitude? What does an agricultural pilot need to know? What should be observed when the aircraft starts maneuvers at a height of a few tens of meters?
