“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great hearts,” Mother Teresa’s saying has expressed the spirit of volunteer service of many people in the world towards Vietnamese refugees. Pastor Duc (Doug Kellum) brought his great heart to serve at the refugee camps where the Vietnamese first arrived in America at Fort Chappee or Pendletan and then to the Boat People camps in Leam Sing, Songkha (Thailand), and Palawan (Philippines). The Pastor once brought food to the survivors who had just arrived in the land of Freedom, then delivered letters filled with love from all over the world to the refugee camps under the scorching sun and many other sacrifices! The Pastor was happy, sad and suffered the pain of us Vietnamese; he read and spoke Vietnamese fluently to understand our feelings of being far from home better. Oh! How come there are people who are not of the same skin color but have such a love for the Vietnamese people? Is it true that the red blood and the beating of a great heart never have a boundary… We invite you to listen to the confidences of Pastor Doug Kellum… History Through Storytelling is one of the projects of the Vietnamese Heritage Museum to preserve stories in memory, directly through the stories of those who participated or were witnesses to recent historical events. This project is a research project aimed at collecting, storing and explaining the history of Vietnamese refugees. Vietnamese refugees who survived need the opportunity to directly share specific and emotional experiences they have gone through, or witnessed historical events of the nation, on the path to freedom, as well as the initial difficulties of settling and making a living in a foreign land. This is an opportunity to sympathize and understand each other better among generations of refugees; At the same time, it also creates for future generations to understand, be proud of, and be grateful for the sacrifices and courage of our ancestors. These interviews document aspects of the historical experience of Vietnamese refugees, immigration, and settlement, which tend to be missing from most mainstream sources. These oral history documentaries will provide an avenue for both understanding and appreciating of the present and future generations of Vietnamese refugees throughout the world. #boatpeople #vietnameserefugee #reeducationcamp#vietnameseheritagemuseum #vietnamesemuseum #vhmusa
