Gippius Aleksey Alekseevich – Doctor of Philology, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief Researcher of the Department of Typology and Comparative Linguistics of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Linguistic Semiotic Studies of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow. The lecture provides an overview of the most important results obtained in the study of birch bark letters. It presents the most significant finds of recent times, demonstrates progress in reading and interpreting letters from excavations of previous years, characterizes the current state of digital resources - the database "Old Russian Birch Bark Letters" (gramoty.ru) and the subcorpus of birch bark letters as part of the National Corpus of the Russian Language (ruscorpora.ru). The lecture is part of the program of the autumn session of the II All-Russian Scientific and Practical School "Medieval Rus' in the Context of World History", organized by the Faculty of History and the Scientific and Educational Laboratory "Russia and Europe: Comparative Study of Pre-Industrial Societies". #YarSU #Demidov_University
