Mission No.: 08/2024 Keyword: B2 - unclear smoke development, people in the building Alarm time: April 30, 2024: 5:03 p.m. Location: Bennewitz; Bahnhofstrasse (Trägerwerk Soziale Dienste) Forces: HLF 20; GW-L1; MTW Yesterday afternoon, shortly after 5 p.m., our pagers, telephones and sirens rang out. The mission keyword did not bode well. Smoke development and people still in the TWSD dormitory were reported. All 4 fire departments in the municipality of Bennewitz and the turntable ladder from the city of Wurzen were alerted. The report was confirmed for the first arriving forces. A deflagration caused a fire in the basement. The building alarm rang out loudly. The residents were quickly brought out of the building and to safety by the TWSD staff. Unfortunately, not everyone made it out of the building and so the head of operations was informed that 8 people must still be in the front part of the building. At this point, it was clear to the emergency services that this was an exercise. Under the watchful eyes of the deputy district fire chief Thilo Bergt, the community fire chief Olaf Ettig and the local fire chief Dirk Albrecht, the search for people and firefighting operations were initiated. Several teams entered the building wearing heavy breathing apparatus and split up so that they could complete the assigned tasks simultaneously. The first people made themselves known on the roof. The turntable ladder was brought into position to rescue them. At the same time, several people were found in the basement and stairwell and quickly rescued. They had a variety of injury patterns. Everything from panic attacks to broken bones to life-threatening injuries was there. A gathering point was set up and since no emergency services were on site (they were not alerted for the exercise), the patients were given emergency care by their comrades, depending on their injuries. This went as far as resuscitation. A short time later, “FIRE OUT” was reported and after extensive ventilation, the exercise was ended and the site of the operation was dismantled. Afterwards, there was a short summary and a small snack with "small talk" at the Bennewitz fire station. A detailed evaluation will take place at a later date to discuss various abnormalities again. The exercise was accompanied by "Leipzig Firefighter" and "Einsatzfahrten Chemnitz", who took many pictures and videos.
