Organic farming is mainly based on maintaining plant health through the use of preventive measures, such as the selection of appropriate species and varieties resistant to pests and diseases, appropriate crop rotation, mechanical and physical methods, and protection of natural enemies of pests. Thanks to this, production supporting biodiversity is environmentally friendly. This is appreciated by both consumers, who increasingly reach for such products, and farmers, who are increasingly willing to transform their farms into organic ones. As emphasized by Małgorzata Waszwska from the Chief Inspectorate of Agricultural and Food Quality, in Poland we already have over 18 thousand organic farms, and the number of all organic producers, including processing plants and entities involved in trade, is over 20 thousand. Organic farms are co-financed from EU funds under the Rural Development Program for 2014-2020. The subsidies that farmers are entitled to thanks to this vary depending on the type of production conducted. The level of EU subsidies is very attractive, which attracts more and more supporters of the organic industry in Poland. Many farmers also process their products in home processing plants, thanks to which they can increase their income and also offer consumers a wider range of organic products. All information on the processing of organic products at the farm level can be obtained from the Agricultural Advisory Center in Brwinów, branch in Radom.
