#ndr #ndrdoku #housebuilding Irene and Matthias Thomsen are building a special house: out of straw. The young couple need more than 1,000 bales for their dream house in Flegessen near Bad Münder. But right from the start it becomes clear that many of the bales have become damp over the winter. The attic in which they stored them was not completely sealed, and snow has penetrated through gaps between the roof tiles. In the worst case scenario, the straw will not be enough to insulate all the walls and roof of their house. Then they have to find and buy new straw. In addition, it must not rain during installation, because on the construction site they can hardly protect the straw from precipitation. Matthias and Irene Thomsen do almost everything themselves, designed the entire house themselves, but also regularly get help from experts. They know that most builders who work with straw are primarily worried about moisture, fire and pests. The Nordreportage accompanies the couple on their straw house adventure and shows the special challenges behind working with straw.
