The second Abbasid Caliph, and the twenty-first Caliph in the order of Caliphs after the Prophet Muhammad. He is the true founder of the Abbasid Caliphate, and the builder of Baghdad. He was pledged allegiance to as Caliph on the thirteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah 136 AH / the tenth of June 754 AD, after the death of his brother Abu al-Abbas al-Saffah. Al-Saffah was younger than him, but he assumed the imamate and then the caliphate before him, in compliance with the will of their brother Ibrahim al-Imam, because al-Saffah's mother was a free Arab, while al-Mansur's mother was a Berber concubine. Al-Mansur was born and raised in Al-Humaymah in the Jund al-Urdun region, then moved to Kufa with his family after Caliph Marwan bin Muhammad, the last Umayyad Caliph, arrested his brother Ibrahim al-Imam. During the Abbasid Revolution, Al-Mansur helped his brother Al-Saffah to control the lands of the Islamic Caliphate after they had eliminated the rule of the Umayyads, and he contributed to consolidating the rule of the Abbasids. Al-Saffah appointed him governor of Armenia, Arran, and the Euphrates Peninsula, and he also sought his help in suppressing a number of revolutions that arose against the Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Saffah entrusted the caliphate to his brother after him.
