※ This video is part of <Architecture Exploration House - Special Feature: Living in an Old House, Part 3: Everything About Hanok Repairs> broadcast on March 16, 2021. When you enter the alleys of Bukchon, Seoul, which was the capital for 600 years, you will see small hanoks. Among them, there is one house with a neat eaves line. When you open the front door and enter, you can see the yard that contains the sky and the interior of the house where tradition and modernity coexist. The person living in this house is Jeon Sang-jin (39). He renovated this hanok himself. After graduating, he made an independent documentary and experienced various living environments, including a goshiwon, a one-room apartment, an officetel, and a student council room. Sang-jin never thought of having his own home. In his mid-30s, he opened a small photo studio in a semi-basement with 30 million won that he had saved up hard. However, eight months after moving in, the studio flooded due to a building leak, and the building owner at the time refused to pay for the damages. At that time, Sangjin thought, 'I have to get a house of my own even if I have to take out a loan.' Three years ago, what caught his eye was a small hanok built in 1936. After working day and night and gathering his soul(?) to save up the amount equivalent to the deposit for a small apartment in Seoul, he took out a bank loan and purchased the house. That's why he wanted to solve the construction cost within the 'Seoul City Hanok Repair Support Fund', and he personally repaired the house with a carpenter and a work team leader for about four months. He straightened the leaning frame of the house, and used old wood to replace the wood for harmony. The interior has a modern feel by creating an open space by connecting two rooms and a large wooden floor. He will teach you everything from how to select old wood needed for hanok repairs to how to make a small 15-pyeong hanok look like a mansion. What exactly is the method? Let's find out on the broadcast. ✔ Program name: Architectural Exploration House - Special feature: Renovating an old house Part 3: Everything about Hanok repairs ✔ Broadcast date: 2021.03.16
