At the end of a village in Bonghwa, a red brick house reminiscent of the brick house of the three little pigs stands out. It looks sturdy from the outside, but there was a reason why the couple had to build a sturdy house. In fact, the couple suffered from trauma after the Pohang earthquake. They experienced firsthand how the safest house could change into the most dangerous house in an instant. That’s why they decided to build a house where their family could live safely. They designed a wooden house that was strong against earthquakes, a single-story house where things wouldn’t fall from above, and 21 windows so that they could go outside at any time. They even consulted a geologist and a friend to confirm that it was safe ground. In this way, wife Min-kyung designed it and husband Chan-wook built it, completing a safe house. However, they said that they suffered so much while building the house. Because of Chan-wook’s personality, they felt sorry and couldn’t ask him to do it again. The reason was because they were worried that if they made the construction company uncomfortable, they might end up only driving two nails when they had to drive three. I can see defects that only I can see all over the house. My wife Min-kyung says the bathroom is just right, but my husband Chan-wook says it's a little too narrow for him to use comfortably. Also, the attic is a little too low for an adult to stand properly. He says he can't ask them to do it again, so he always has to go back and forth in a hunched posture every time he goes to the attic. My husband Chan-wook says that if he builds another house, he'll build it himself.
