One of the super frequent questions that people who are approaching “studio” photography with flash for the first time ask me is: what color background do you recommend to start with? The answer is that, ideally, the “basic” kit should include a white, a gray and a black background but… if you don’t have a lot of space or for budget reasons you can only buy one… well, in my opinion, that single color should be medium gray because, with just one background, you have the maximum flexibility possible.
