Two buildings that are particularly worth seeing are gems, jewels of the district town of Kleve. Firstly, the Schwanenburg, which can be seen far into the country, and secondly - but at least equally important - the collegiate church of St. Mary's Assumption. For us on the Niederrhein-Report team, it was more than a duty to film this place of worship. As early as 1170, history books mention a church that was located near Kleve Castle. This church was located beyond the city walls at the time, even when the city of Kleve was founded in 1242. A so-called branch church was built within the city fortifications. A branch of the Minorites was founded here. The district dean and provost Johannes Mecking explains further important and interesting details about this church in our film.
