Place that is said to be amazed / La Charita (Abandoned) Near the Uruguay River, 4km from what is now the Benito Legerén neighborhood, belonging to the city of Concordia, lost in the immensity of the mountains and hidden in the silence of its surroundings, there is an imposing construction that dates back hundreds of years, with monumental walls, endless stairs and vast stables. According to former inhabitants of the area, it belonged to important people from Spain, who used slave labor to extract minerals from the ground, without caring about the unpleasant situations and mistreatment suffered by their workers. Today worn down by the passage of time, battered by the elements of nature and almost completely damaged by the contempt of the men who once settled there, it continues to give rise to talk with dark and mysterious stories surrounding its existence. This story is, perhaps, one of the most shocking of all those that mention this place as a setting. Around the 1950s, a poor family lived in the ruins of this building and had nowhere else to stay. The members of this family told people in the surrounding areas about the heart-rending screams, uncontrollable cries and deafening noises that could be heard there every night, as if they were a whip cracking against someone's back. These people's stay at “La Charita” was not very long, as they soon found another place to stay. Years went by, until one day, a group of people arrived near the old and majestic building, with the intention of fishing in the Uruguay River. When night fell, the fishermen camped about 100 meters from the shore, while everyone was chatting pleasantly around a campfire. One of them heard a noise coming from the forest and said to the others: - I'm going to check what that noise was, I'll be right back. And he disappeared into the darkness of the trees. Minutes and hours passed, and his worried companions decided to go into the woods to look for their friend. After 2 hours of intense and relentless searching, they found the man, dead, lying on the side of the old building with deep whip marks on his back. Many years have passed since this horrible event, but to this day no one knows for sure what happened that night. Some say that someone took advantage of the circumstances and the stories told about that place to commit such a crime. Others say that supernatural beings live there who are responsible for that horrendous murder. But, in the end, it always was, is and will continue to be a mystery hidden in the darkness and solitude of "La Charita." There are many stories like these in Concordia.
